Shipping

Please follow proper shipping procedures for both hazardous and non-hazardous samples. The APS provides Additional Guidance regarding shipping procedures to/from the APS.

Non-Hazardous Materials

Non-hazardous samples (including dry shippers without liquid), materials, and tools may be shipped to Argonne or transported by the user.

Under no circumstances may you transport any nonexempt hazardous or biohazardous samples, materials, or tools to Argonne in your own car.

Weekends and Holidays

Let NSF’s ChemMatCARS staff person know your dewar will arrive on the weekend or holiday so that a gate pass can be arranged for the delivery person. The shipment has to be sent to the Argonne Guest House, addressed to the user.

Transporting Hazardous Materials

If you need to have any hazardous materials sent to APS/ANL, please review the information found at the link below prior to beginning the shipping process. The procedures outlined at this link apply to all materials that are considered hazardous by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). TRANSPORTING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS (APS)

Users are NOT allowed to bring/ship hazardous or infectious substances (substances identified as hazardous by DOT or IATA such as liquid nitrogen, propane, freon or ethane and biological samples that are identified as hazardous by DOT or CDC) directly to ChemMatCARS. These substances have to be shipped to the address given below.

Under no circumstances may users transport a nonexempt hazardous or bio-hazardous material to the APS in their own vehicle.

All substances MUST be packaged and labeled according to the DOT regulations or Argonne National Lab Receiving will refuse to accept the shipment. Please contact your local Safety Office for assistance with proper shipping methods.
